Finance/Investment Committee
that Central Lodge (000) dues
for a new social member will
be the same as dues for a
benefit member if the social
member is insured with a Sons
of Norway insurance contract.
After the first year, dues will be
the social member amount.
Motion carried.
MOTION was made by the
Finance/Investment Committee
recommending CEO Eivind
Heiberg establish and publish
a policy regarding the tax
deductible nature of Foundation
donations. Motion carried.
MOTION was made by the
Corporate Matters Committee
that the following procedure
be adopted for lodges owning
real estate:
1. All lodges not in compliance
shall be contacted by telephone
by an International Officer,
Director or District President by
May 3, 2013.
2. Legal Counsel David
Ness will provide appropriate
information for the caller.
3. Following the telephone
contact, the International Board
caller will send the lodge an
email reiterating the real estate
holding points discussed, with
Legal Counsel Ness, the District
President and Liz Reque copied.
4. Lodges will have five
working days to respond by
email to the International Board
caller that they are providing
the required documents. The
email shall be forwarded to
those named above.
5. By May 15, all Sons of
Norway lodges shall be sent a
letter that provides guidelines
for owning real estate.
6. Lodges that do not respond
by June 1, 2013 shall be notified
of their pending suspension.

MOTION was made
by the Corporate Matters
Committee that the application
for membership from an
individual convicted of a
felony and incarcerated in a
state penitentiary shall not be
approved for Sons of Norway
membership. Motion carried.
MOTION was made by the
Corporate Matters Committee
to approve the Sons of Norway
Foundation Bylaws, dated
April 23, 2013, as proposed by
the Sons of Norway Board of
Governors. Motion carried.
MOTION was made and
seconded to approve the Sons
of Norway Foundation Board of
Governor's recommendations:
1. Encourage the District
Sons of Norway boards to
establish a named position
within each district for a
District Foundation Director.
2. Encourage all Sons of
Norway lodges to establish
a Local Lodge Foundation
Director within their individual
lodges. Motion carried.
MOTION was made by the
Corporate Matters Committee
that Oslo 3-438 be suspended
as a Sons of Norway lodge
pending the IRS reinstatement
of its tax exempt status, and
stating the process for lifting
the suspension upon IRS
reinstatement of its tax exempt
status. Motion carried.
MOTION was made by the
Benefits Committee to approve
the inclusion of a quarterly
article in Viking magazine called
Family Matters to offer the
solution to the Viking for Kids
resolution passed at the 2012
International Lodge Meeting.
Motion carried.
MOTION was made by
the Benefits Committee for
approval of a grant to Poulsbo
2-044 in the amount of $1,000.

MOTION was made by
the Benefits Committee for
approval of an annual budget
not to exceed $5,000 be set for
Lodge Improvement Grants.
Motion carried.
MOTION was made by the
Benefits Committee that the
International President assign
to a person or committee the
task of investigating whether or
not the misuse of social media
should be included in Section
1.8. of the Charter, Constitution
and Procedures manual
Conduct and Appeal Process.
Motion carried.
MOTION was made by
the Benefits Committee that
the International President
set up a committee to
investigate the feasibility
of obtaining accreditation
from an authorized camping
organization for those districts
and/or local lodges that
operate youth camps where
the youth are entrusted to the
care of the camp.
In the interim it is
recommended that no
camps as described above
operate without conducting
background checks on camp
staff or personnel who come
in contact with children
and that camps ensure that
adequate medical facilities and
certified medical personnel are
available. Motion carried.
MOTION was made by the
Benefits Committee to change
the spring board meeting
date from the third full week
of April to the first full week
of May to allow additional
time for staff to complete
the financial and other board
reports. Motion carried.
MOTION was made by
the Benefits Committee for
approval to invest up to $8,000
annually in a program designed
to increase membership
recruiting. Motion carried.
The 2013 Fall Board of
Directors Meeting will be held
Nov. 6-9, 2013.
