Sons of Norway

s I mentioned in a previous
column, my knowledge of
Sons of Norway was very
limited when I joined. Fellowship was
what drew me to the organization.
The more involved I got, the more I
came to realize that all three aspects
of our organization-Financial,
Foundation and Fraternal-are
critical to our success.
This month Viking is beginning a
three-part series about Sons of Norway.
Each article will provide a historical
perspective as well as the current state of
each of our business areas. The first in
the series focuses on the financial aspect,
followed by articles about our Foundation
and then fraternal operations.
Beginning the series with an in-depth
look at the financial component is very
appropriate since Sons of Norway began
as a mutual benefit society. Interestingly,
most other fraternal benefit societies
require ownership of a financial product
in order to participate as a social member.
Sons of Norway does not have
this requirement. As a result, those
who join for Norwegian heritage and
culture often have the misconception
that Sons of Norway is merely a
social organization. They are unaware
that Sons of Norway is an insurance
company and the proceeds from the
sale of financial products are returned
to the organization to support
our lodges and fraternal programming.
Without this financial support,
programming resources offered to our
lodges and benefits available to our
members would be very limited.

I hope that you will find this series
informative. The interdependency
between the financial, Foundation
and fraternal operations of Sons of
Norway, highlighted in these articles,
are what make us strong today and
in the future.

om jeg nevnte i en tidligere spalte
hadde jeg begrenset kunnskap om

Det var fellesskapet som trakk meg til
organisasjonen. Jo mer involvert jeg ble, jo
mer jeg kom til å innse at alle tre aspektene
av organisasjonen-den finansielle

Denne måneden begynner Viking med
en tredelt serie om Sons of Norway. Hver
artikkel vil gi både et historisk perspektiv så
vel som en oversikt over den nåværende
tilstanden i de tre forretningsområdene.
Den første artikkelen i serien fokuserer
på de finansielle produktene, etterfulgt
av artikler om Foundation og
broderskapsvirksomheten.
At serien starter med en grundig
gjennomgåelse av de finansielle produktene
er hensiktsmessig ettersom Sons of Norway
opprinnelig var et samfunn som fokuserte
på gjensidig nytte. Det er interessant å
observere at de fleste andre broderlige
samfunn krever at du eier et finansielt
produkt for å kunne delta som et sosialt
medlem. Sons of Norway har ikke dette
kravet. Følgelig har de som blir medlem på
grunn av sin norske arv og kultur ofte den
misforståelsen at Sons of Norway bare er
en sosial organisasjon. De er uvitende om
at Sons of Norway er et forsikringsselskap,
og at inntektene fra salg av finansielle
produkter blir returnert til organisasjonen
for å støtte våre lodger og broderlige
programtilbud. Uten denne økonomiske
støtten vil tilbudet av programressurser for
lodgene og tilgjengelige medlemsfordeler
være svært begrenset.

virksomheten i Sons of Norway som
