During his 2006-2007 season, Svindal
sped his way to the top, winning two World
Championships and a World Cup. But it
all came to a crashing halt during a race in
November 2007 when he fell on his back and
skidded into a fence while attempting to land
a jump. Svindal spent weeks in the hospital
recovering from his injguries. He missed the
remainder of the season while getting his
damaged body back in shape.
After nearly a year away, he returned to
racing-skiing the same mountain on which
he'd crashed-and won the World Cup. Later
in 2009, he earned a World Champion title.

Aksel Lund Svindal received his first pair
of skis from his parents as a third birthday
present. There's no way his they could have
known what that gift would lead to, but
29 years later Svindal is one of the most
accomplished skiers in the world.
He left home at age 15 to combine his
schooling with skiing and quickly made
Norway's Junior Team. By 19, he was on the
slopes full time.

Vancouver, he won silver in the prestigious
men's downhill skiing event, bronze in
the giant slalom and gold in the Super-G
competition. His second-place finish in the
downhill event was Norway's 100th silver
medal at the Games, which made Svindal's
home country the first nation to win 100
silver medals at a Winter Olympics.
In 2011, he was back to gold, successfully
defending his title in the super combined
event at the World Championships. The
next year, Svindal won the World Cup
Super-G title. Then in 2013, his victory in
the downhill race made him the first male
alpine racer to win titles in four consecutive
World Championships. This past December,
he earned yet another World Cup title.
It seems Svindal is stronger than ever and
won't let any obstacle get in his way.
