by Sons of Norway Financial Benefi ts Counselors,
nonprofi t organization Life Happens offers resources
to help with your fi nancial needs. Sons of Norway is
one of about 150 leading insurance companies that are
part of Life Happens and its mission to educate people
about the importance of taking fi nancial responsibility
through ownership of life insurance.
The organization provides tools and
resources to spread the word about
the need for coverage at different life
stages, according to Faisa Stafford,
chief operating offi cer and chief
fi nancial offi cer of Life Happens.
No matter what your age or fi nancial
situation, the Life Happens website (lifehappens.org)
offers information about life insurance for young
families, empty nesters, retirees-even single people
and children. Its main message: " While it is an expense
that you have to budget for, imagine what the fi nancial
impact would be for your family if something were to
happen to you and you had no life insurance coverage
at all. "
Schiermeister echoes that sentiment. " People don't
understand where the need is for life insurance, " he
says. " It's for the living. If you love your family and
want them to be comfortable and not have to struggle,
you need to get coverage. "

September is Life Insurance Awareness month,
and there's no better time to get your fi nances
in order.

early 30 percent of families have no life insurance. One
of the biggest reasons people don't have coverage is that
they think they can't afford it. Yet, people with no life
insurance typically overestimate the cost by 300 percent.
Even those with coverage overestimate its cost by double. Scott
Schiermeister, a Sons of Norway Financial Benefi ts Counselor
in Spokane, Wash., says people are often misinformed about
the need for life insurance. Rather than asking a neighbor or
colleague, it's best to discuss the decision with someone with
expertise who can focus on your needs. This marks the 11th
year of Life Insurance Awareness month, and it's time to seek
that advice now.
