Exploring Sons of Norway's New Website, Part 3
arlier this year Sons of Norway launched its new
website at sonsofnorway.com and for the past two
months Viking has been featuring a series on the
updates that have been made to the site. This month, for the
fi nal part of the series we will focus on the portion of the
website devoted to the Sons of Norway Foundation.
Since its establishment in 1966, the Foundation has
had the mission of funding activities that preserve and
promote Norwegian heritage while making Sons of
Norway communities more vibrant places to live. With
the streamlined design and reorganized information of the
new site, it is easier than ever to fi nd and apply for funding
through one of the many Sons of Norway Foundation
scholarships and grants.
The new Foundation section of the website is now a place
where you can discover all of the options available for both
members and non-members. For example, in the grants and
scholarships area visitors can learn about each of the various
funding opportunities (more than a dozen in all-and can
only be applied for via the website), including
general heritage and culture grants and
scholarships to the Oslo International Summer
School and Norwegian folk high schools, which
are all great member benefi ts.
You can also visit the Donation section to
learn about the various ways that you can help

to the Sons of
support the Foundation, its ongoing work, and its mission.
Within this area you will fi nd options for fundraisers, onetime
gifts, and legacy donations; each helping the Foundation
in their own way. The fundraisers link will take you to a page
where you will see opportunities for your lodge to generate
donations that benefi t both the Foundation and your local
lodge. Next, the one-time gift area is our primary online
donation portal, where members and others in the Nordic
community can support the Foundation through a personal
donation. Last, but not least, is the legacy gifts page, which
educates members on various other ways to give, including
donating life insurance to the Foundation or leaving a gift
by charitable trust or gift by will. Because each member's
situation is different, the new website has been redesigned to
make giving at all levels as easy as possible.
Finally, after taking a tour through the Donation area,
you can visit the Oversight & Governance area to learn
about the people who make the Foundation what it is. You
can learn about the current Board of Governors as well as
access an archive of Foundation annual reports,
which shares stories from scholarship and grant
recipients.
