Have you ever wondered how the Northern Lights form, and why they are visible in high
latitudes, such as in Northern Norway? Here's a scientifi c look at the world's coolest light show.
¼ The Northern Lights, known as Aurora Borealis,
can be found in the northern hemisphere.
On the southern hemisphere it is
called Aurora Australis.
¼ The aurora extends from 80 to
300km, and sometimes up to
500 to 800km.
¼ By monitoring the activity of the sun, scientists
can forecast the strength and location of
the aurora.

¼ The lights form when large gas
eruptions from the sun move through
space and collide with Earth's magnetic fi eld.
They are channeled down toward the polar
regions where they collide with the atmosphere
and make it glow.
