Back on the peninsula of Trondheim, there are several museums worth exploring. The Ringve
Music Museum showcases the vibrant patchwork of social contexts and personalities that make
up the town's 18th-century musical history. By contrast, Rockheim - a shock of contemporary
urban architecture at harbor's edge - is Norway's national museum of pop and rock music with
plenty of family-friendly interactive exhibits. Don't miss The Time Tunnel, the museum's exhibition
of modern Norwegian musical and cultural history.
È Kick Back in Style
After all the walking, sightseeing and eating, a person
needs a place to hang her hat. Luckily, Trondheim has an
abundance of nice hotels within easy walking distance of
attractions and restaurants.
The Scandic Nidelven is new, large and ideally set on
the river in the middle of town. As an added bonus, the
hotel has won the Best Breakfast in Norway competition
the last 10 years. Scandic Solsiden is another good
choice, especially for families, since this hotel has a
special playroom open in summer and is easy walking
distance from Trondheim's water park, Pirbadet.
Another large and new hotel, the Radisson Blu Royal
Garden is set along the river. Its glass atrium-dominated
architecture makes the most of Trondheim's long
summer days, and shimmery Northern Lights in winter.
No Trondheim hotel list would be complete without
the historic Britannia Hotel, which has sheltered the
city's guests in stately elegance for over 110 years. Just
steps from both Nidaros and the train station, the
Britannia is the grand dame of this city. However, as of
July 2016, the hotel is closed for a major renovation but is
slated to reopen in early September 2018.
