Will Our Convention Outpace the Super Bowl?
ranted, the 2018 International Convention slated for mid-August in the Twin Cities
will not garner the vast crowds descending on U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown
Minneapolis this month. However, you can be sure that all who participate in our
convention will bring no less enthusiasm than those thousands of football fans.
" Teamwork " aptly describes what it takes to produce a meaningful and entertaining
convention. This year's host committee and volunteer teams have now been working for
months to ensure that all who attend will enjoy a positive experience. Here is a " sneak peek "
of some highlights you can expect.

While some committee meetings occur earlier in the week, the fi rst major activity takes
place on Wednesday, August 15: the 2018 Leadership Conference. With
a theme of Motivate - Maximize - Mobilize, participants will learn
how to leverage their volunteer efforts toward more participation and
community awareness. Dynamic speakers, volunteer success stories,
social media training and more will make up the day. An optional
event at U.S. Bank Stadium will take place that evening, with the
chance to roam the stunning new stadium where the 2018
Super Bowl was held.
Opening ceremonies and delegate assemblies will occur
later in the week, with many activities interspersed.
Trips to Twin Cities' attractions including Historic
Fort Snelling and the American Swedish Institute
will be available, and the Mall of America is nearby
for your shopping pleasure. As usual, the elegant
President's Reception will be an opportunity to catch
up with friends. The Folk Art Exhibition is always
a popular event, and the Installation of Offi cers
followed by a banquet and dance will bring the week
to a close.
The importance of the work taken on by the
delegates to chart Sons of Norway's course for
the coming years cannot be stressed enough. I am
grateful for their work to present resolutions, deliberate
productively and make conscientious decisions toward
ensuring the vitality of Sons of Norway. Our delegates
come together as a team of the highest order, and they
deserve our thanks as the convention nears.
With an overall convention theme of " Sailing for
Growth, " let us be certain to either participate or
support the efforts of those who do in these months
leading up to kick-off.
