Manshausen Manshausen was created by polar explorer, speaker and writer Børge Ousland, which explains why the environment and outdoor activities play starring roles. Located more than 60 miles above the Arctic Circle, Manshausen is a 55-acre private island in the Steigen archipelago in the center of the Grøtøya strait. Five of its sea cabins (sjøhyttene) line an ancient stone jetty, with glass-encased portions that cantilever over the water. Staying in the award-winning, modular structures gets you as close to nature as possible while surrounded by indoor comforts. Depending on the time of year, you may even witness the Northern Lights. Two sea cabins sit above the others on a natural ledge in the landscape, which allows for ample views of the mountains and sea.
