T
he Sons of Norway 2018 Leadership Conference, " Motivate - Maximize -
Mobilize to Benefi t Your Lodge and Community, " was held the day prior
to last August's International Convention. The event sparked enthusiastic
reactions, some of which I would like to share with you.
A pattern of affi rmative words emerged in the post-conference survey, including
" informative, " " excellent, " " inspirational " and " relevant. " And each of the seven
modules overwhelmingly earned " strongly agree " or " agree " marks to the statements:
* The presenter was interesting and inspiring to listen to.
* The topic was of interest to me.
* The topic was easy to understand.
* I will take away ideas to help inform future activities and build awareness
of my lodge.

Members also let us know how they felt about the conference with statements such as:
* One of the best parts is the chance to associate with other members from all over
the U.S., Canada and Norway.
* Very well organized.
* The volunteer aspect of Sons of Norway is very important to me.
Many conference attendees offered tangible ideas for future leadership workshops,
asking for sessions related to community relations and outreach; strategies for recruitment,
fundraising and grant writing; ways to involve youth; and sharing ideas on successful lodge
activities along with those that don't work so well.
The conference had a true spirit of collaboration-among presenters, participants and
planners. All contributed to a largely successful event. American Fraternal Alliance President
and CEO Joe Annotti was in attendance for the entire day, and we are fortunate that he
wrapped up the conference with vital information on fraternal organizations maintaining
their tax exempt status. He dedicated one of his blog posts to the event stating, " ... it was
incredibly rewarding to participate in a meeting that had one primary purpose: helping
members improve their ability to positively impact their communities. " Read more in Joe's

I am grateful for all who participated and collaborated to ensure a successful 2018
Leadership Conference, and I hope that many of you picked up on some of the social
