Making (Internet) Connection
in Norway
The availability of Internet access has long been a marker of
advanced economies. But in the wake of COVID-19, it has become
even more instrumental to daily life, where face-to-face interactions
with family, friends and coworkers may not be possible without it. In
2019, the number of Internet users worldwide was 4.13 billion-more
than half of the global population. Among countries and regions
with access, Norway is one of the most connected in the world, with
98.4% of its households having Internet access in 2019.

known as Girl in Red,
of Horten, Norway, is
a becoming a star from the comfort of her own
bedroom. The indie artist creates " bedroom
pop, " a growing genre made possible by
self-publication websites, accessible music
production software and social media. Girl in
Red released her debut single on SoundCloud
in 2017, reaching thousands of listeners after
being featured on NRK Urørt, a Norwegian
website for emerging artists. Since then, Girl
in Red has released two EPs, toured with
American singer-songwriter Conan Gray and
racked up 1.4 million followers on the popular
social media platform TikTok, with plans to
release a full-length album as well.

A-HA FILM GOES BEHIND THE SCENES OF " TAKE ON ME "
Nearly everyone knows the 1985 a-ha hit, " Take On Me. " The synth-pop band
is considered one of Norway's biggest pop successes ever, and their story is
hitting the big screen this month, nearly 35 years after their breakthrough.
" A-ha-The Movie " follows the three Oslo-native band members over a period
of four years, documenting their journey to becoming pop stars, the tensions
that the sudden success brought upon the bandmates, and their ongoing
musical legacy.
Visit the World's Northernmost Botanical Garden in Tromsø
Located at the Tromsø university campus, the Tromsø Arctic-Alpine Botanic
Garden has no fences, no gates and is free of charge to visit. It features 25
collections of plants from all over the world, including the Arctic, Northern
Norway, the Himalayas, South America and Africa. The mascot of the garden
is the Himalayan blue poppy, which blooms in the middle of summer in tall
and short varieties, with colors ranging from yellow to dark red. Flowering
season begins in May and lasts until October. The garden is even open during
winter, so visitors can enjoy the rock landscapes and evergreen shrubs-they
just might have to bring their skis as well.
