NEWS, TRENDS AND INSPIRATION Nordic Life PICTURING THE SÁMI Designed by artist duo Sarah Cooper and Nina Gorfer, " Interruptions " is a series of photographs centered around Swedish Sámi women and their experience through generations. From 2015 to 2016, Cooper and Gorfer worked on this project, braving the cold winters of Sápmi to take these photos. The two artists capture the faces of the indigenous Sámi women, centuries after the colonization of northern Sweden. With many photos taken behind a sheet of glass, these portraits blur the line between paintings and photographs but tell very real stories. These images invite reflection on individual hardships; they explore the theme of cultural loss that carries through to the modern day. coopergorfer.com Photo: " Tintin and Lisa in Pattern, " 2016, Cooper & Gorfer February 2022 7http://www.coopergorfer.com
