on the items are then evaluated to determine if they should be
revised, approved as an operational item, or deleted. This process
is ongoing to ensure the validity of the MPJE exams, while also
allowing the flexibility to update specific MPJEs as needed by states
and jurisdictions.
NABP has also started distributing new reports to the schools
and colleges of pharmacy that provide greater insights into their
students' performance on the NAPLEX and MPJE. The report
breaks down the number of graduates a school had in the previous
year, and how many of those students took a specific jurisdiction of
the MPJE more than once. Performance metrics are further broken
down by candidates who were seeking licensure in the same state as
the school or from another jurisdiction. Finally, the school reports
provide a comparison of graduates' performance compared to the
state and national average.
More details on these potential changes are available in the
February 2022 issue of Innovations, and further updates will be
provided to the boards. Additional information about the MPJE
and all NABP examinations are available in the Programs section
of the NABP website.

a pool of volunteers based on a variety of
traits, including practice setting, experience,
geography, and identification with
historically marginalized communities, to
ensure the panel is made up of a diverse and
representative group of pharmacists.
Once assembled, the panel reviewed the
results of several different standard setting
methods, then recommended a passing standard.

After careful consideration, a new passing
standard has been adopted for the North
American Pharmacist Licensure Examination®
(NAPLEX®
). This standard is used to measure
a candidate's overall performance on the
exam and to generate a score based on the
minimum acceptable level of competency
required to protect public health. While the

actual numerical score required to pass the
exam (75) will continue without change, the
standard itself has been raised following the
adoption of new competency statements in
January 2021.
The standard setting process began at
a workshop held on September 22-23,
2021, at NABP Headquarters. A panel of
standard was conducted by the NAPLEX
Review Committee and the Advisory
Committee on Examinations during
their meetings in 2021. Finally, the
recommendation was approved by NABP's
Executive Committee in December 2021.
The new passing standard will go into
effect in January 2023. As noted above, the
numerical passing score will remain a 75.
Further, examination results will continue
to be reported as either pass or fail, which
began when the current competency
statements went into effect in January 2021.
