vaccine-preventable diseases
in the United States, the potential for
pharmacists to play a more active
role in vaccination efforts has become
an important public health strategy.
Expanded scope of practice and related
regulatory changes are now empowering
pharmacists and pharmacy technicians
to address the diverse immunization
needs of the population, enhancing
access to care and, ultimately, positively
impacting public health.
Evidence supporting the effectiveness of pharmacist-administered
vaccination programs is plentiful, and some regulators and public health
experts have led discussions on the potential for further expansion to
improve health outcomes for patients. However, some concerns remain
regarding potential barriers to implementation and how pharmacists
fit into the greater health care landscape with other vaccinators.
