Boards Using NABP Eligibility Service Continue to See Benefits

Eleven member boards are currently utilizing
NABP's exam eligibility service, which allows
NABP to confirm the eligibility of applicants
to take the North American Pharmacist
Licensure Examination® and the Multistate
Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination®.
NABP's eligibility service includes
verifying an applicant's education, screening
for disciplinary actions using the NABP
Clearinghouse, and verifying any additional
criteria required by a board of pharmacy.
Drawing on the data stored in the secure
NABP e-Profile Connect® system, Association
staff is able to efficiently process eligibility,
sometimes more quickly than a board. Perhaps
even more valuable, boards that use the NABP
eligibility process often find that resources and
staff time may be redirected to other board
processes, alleviating some administrative
burden for participating boards.
For example, staff at the North Carolina
Board of Pharmacy said that the eligibility
service has allowed the Board to streamline
its licensing process by eliminating
redundant document collection, thus
allowing staff more time to focus on other
tasks, including North Carolina-specific
aspects of licensure application.
" The improved efficiency has allowed
us to issue new licenses daily instead of
weekly. Having a standardized method for
vetting academic qualifications for testing
that is implemented by dedicated NABP
staff provides maximum confidence and
reliability, " said the Board's executive director,
Jack W. " Jay " Campbell IV, JD, RPh.
Peter J. Ragosta, RPh, chief administrative
officer and executive director of the Rhode
Island Board of Pharmacy, also spoke
positively about NABP's eligibility service.
" I would definitely recommend the service, "
he said. " NABP obtains the necessary
information directly from the applicants
and completes the eligibility check based
upon the specific state board requirements/
regulations. This has been a time-saver for
the licensing staff. "
Data Verification Supports Boards,
Exam Integrity
The verification steps that compose the
eligibility service protect the integrity of the
examinations. As part of this process, NABP
leverages its comprehensive Clearinghouse to
screen for disciplinary information. In addition,
NABP partners with the schools and colleges
of pharmacy to obtain and process the official
transcripts of their graduating cohorts each year.
Participating boards benefit from
NABP's partnerships with these schools
and colleges of pharmacy and NABP's
technology tools, both of which make this
batch upload feature a reality. And, since
the education transcripts are coming directly

NABP stores and secures this data in the
e-Profile system, alleviating further financial
and administrative burden from boards, as
they may opt to no longer store such data
in their own systems. Instead, boards may
access educational data through the e-Profile
Connect® system at any time and continue
to have access to Clearinghouse data.
