Model Rules Recommendations
The task force recommended that the Model
Rules for Pharmacy Interns and the Model
Standards for Pharmacy Practice Experience
Programs be combined and unnecessary
language deleted. Additionally, upon
reviewing the notifications section, task
force members recommended lengthening
the time frame for when pharmacy interns
must notify their board of changes to their
personal information.
The task force spent significant time
discussing amendments to the Model Rules
for the Practice of Pharmacy, particularly when
reviewing over-prescriptive, burdensome, and
unnecessary language. Among the task force's
recommendations were removing all the
prescriptive pharmacy requirements regarding
space, references, equipment, and storage
areas and replacing them with a generalized
statement; allowing a pharmacist to serve as
a pharmacist-in-charge for more than one
pharmacy at a time, provided that the board
approves; removing the requirement for a
professional performance evaluation; and
removing some electronic record-keeping
provisions.
Lastly, the task force recommended
removing several forms and a self-audit
from Appendix B of the Model Act.
The task force met on October
10-11, 2022, at NABP Headquarters
in Mount Prospect, IL, and virtually
on November 1 and 11, 2022. It was
established pursuant to the Report of the
Model Act Review Committee, which
recommended that a task force be convened
to review the language in the licensing and
disciplinary sections of the Model Act.
