LETTER FROM THE CHAIRPERSON
Reginald B. " Reggie "
Dilliard, DPh
NABP Chairperson
My Fellow Members,
Wow, what a great Annual Meeting we had this year! I hope you
all enjoyed it (and the comforts of Nashville) as much as I did. It
has been my honor and privilege to serve as your NABP president
for the last year and to pass the baton on to Lenora at the end
of the meeting. I am also thrilled to continue serving you as the
chairperson of the Executive Committee for 2023-2024. I look
forward to working closely with the other officers and members of
the Executive Committee, and to advancing our shared mission to
protect public health.
As I shared with you during my address,
we are living in a time of rapid and
constant change in our profession and in
our regulatory responsibilities. Change can
be scary, but it can also be exciting and
necessary. It challenges us to grow, learn,
and innovate. It also creates opportunities
for collaboration, communication, and
leadership. During the Annual Meeting,
I heard from many of you about the
challenges and opportunities you face in
your jurisdictions and ideas on how we can
work together to prepare for the future.
Speaking of the future, that is what
this issue of Innovations is all about. The
feature story for this issue explores some
of the emerging technologies that are
reshaping pharmacy education and practice.
This includes the growing influence of
artificial intelligence, the use of virtual and
augmented reality, and the opportunities
presented by wearable smart devices. These
technologies have amazing potential to
improve patient outcomes and broaden
the pharmacy profession. They also pose
new questions for consideration regarding
regulation, ethics, and quality assurance.
This article gives you some background
information that may help you think about
how to adapt to the potential changes that
these technologies may bring and others that
may be just around the corner.
In this issue, you will also find an update
on NABP's Multistate Pharmacy Inspection
Blueprint Program. This service, which
was created at the request of the boards
of pharmacy, recently celebrated its fifth
anniversary and aims to streamline the
inspection process and provide universal
standards for the inspections of pharmacies
that operate in multiple states. The article
outlines some of the updates to the
inspection form, expected to take effect this
summer, that reflect the latest best practices
and regulatory requirements for pharmacy
compounding and other areas.
Before you jump ahead to the articles,
I would like to take a moment to thank
you for your continued trust and support.
We have faced some tough times in the
last few years, but we have also shown our
resilience and strength. We have proven
that we can overcome any challenge when
we work together. I am ready to continue
serving with your Executive Committee
and working with all of you for another
year. Please feel free to reach out to me
anytime if you have questions, comments,
or suggestions.
Sincerely,
Reginald B. " Reggie " Dilliard, DPh
NABP Chairperson
