NABP's Consumer Website Offers Important Resources
About Prescription Drug Safety
NABP's consumer-facing website, www
.safe.pharmacy, provides a wide range of
resources and information for consumers,
pharmacists, and other stakeholders in the
pharmacy industry. The purpose of the site is
to empower consumers with the knowledge
necessary to safely purchase medications
online, avoid counterfeit or illegal products,
dispose of unneeded medications, and access
other medication safety information.
Over the last several years, NABP's
consumer awareness campaigns have been
pointing visitors to the Buy Safely section of
the website, where consumers are informed
on how to determine the safety and
legitimacy of websites before making online
medication purchases. NABP's website and
campaign messaging focuses on the crucial
phrase " Before You Buy, Verify. " To help
visitors do this, the Safe Site Search Tool is
prominently displayed on both the home
page and on the Buy Safely landing page.
This tool allows users to enter a website's
address and check whether a website is
verified by NABP or not recommended
by searching for the web address. Or, if
preferred, they may download a list of
verified online pharmacies current as of
that day. In addition, the website educates
readers about the prevalence of illegal
websites, offers valuable tips to help them
identify websites that are not legitimate,
explains why sites are added to NABP's
Not Recommended List, and provides a
form for reporting suspicious websites.
Boards of pharmacy and other
organizations can help spread the " Before
You Buy, Verify " message using materials
from the Educational Resources section
that is linked to the Buy Safely page. This
comprehensive collection of resources equips
pharmacists, boards, and other stakeholders
with an array of methods to promote the safe
purchase of medication online. These include
sample social media posts, flyers, images,
videos, and an educational presentation.
Furthermore, some materials are available in
Spanish, extending the potential reach of this
invaluable information to more audiences.
These updates are part of NABP's ongoing
commitment to continuously enhance the
resources available through safe.pharmacy.
As part of this effort, NABP plans to
redesign the home page by the end of the
year, making it more user-friendly and
ensuring that the website remains modern
and accessible. NABP remains dedicated to
raising awareness about medication safety
and assisting consumers in recognizing and
avoiding counterfeit and illegal products.
