LETTER FROM THE CHAIRPERSON
Fellow Members,
As we approach the 119th
NABP Annual Meeting, I am pleased
at the prospect of connecting with so many of you in person
once again. These meetings provide a valuable platform for us to
share ideas, collaborate, and work toward our shared mission of
protecting public health.
" Just culture " is a topic we will have
Caroline D. Juran,
BSPharm, DPh (Hon)
NABP Chairperson
the opportunity to explore together in
one of the Annual Meeting continuing
pharmacy education sessions, and this issue
of Innovations features a cover story that
explores the emerging shift toward utilizing
a just culture model in pharmacy practice
and regulation. As pharmacy professionals,
we all strive to provide the best possible
care for our patients, but sometimes errors
occur. The traditional approach to punitive
discipline in health care may not be the most
effective way to promote patient safety and
quality care. Instead, experts are advocating
for a more learning-focused approach that
emphasizes systems analysis and continuous
improvement. I hope that the ideas shared
in this article will provide some insightful
background and spark conversation among
boards about ways in which we can improve
patient safety, and also improve working
environments for pharmacy providers.
Additionally, this Innovations issue
includes a high-level overview of the end of
the COVID-19 public health emergency
from a legal perspective, with a focus on how
health care providers, including pharmacists,
may be affected. This information has been
provided by legal consultants from Faegre
Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, and I believe it
will provide valuable background for all of us
as we navigate the post-pandemic landscape.
As I close this letter from the chair, I want
to express my gratitude to all of you for your
dedication and commitment to our shared
mission. Over the last seven years on the
Executive Committee, I have seen firsthand
the passion and expertise that our members
bring to the table. Together, we have made
great strides in advancing the practice and
regulation of pharmacy and protecting
patient health. As my term as chairperson
of the Executive Committee ends, I am
honored to have had the opportunity to
work with such a talented and dedicated
group of individuals.
Thank you for everything you do, and
I look forward to seeing you all soon at the
Annual Meeting.
Sincerely,
Caroline D. Juran, BSPharm, DPh (Hon)
NABP Chairperson
