LETTER FROM THE CHAIRPERSON

Fellow Members,
The last few months have been a whirlwind for NABP, as it has been
for many of you, I imagine. Hopefully, everyone has had a chance to
wind down with family vacations and trips to exotic locations or just
somewhere quiet and relaxing. In any case, our work goes on! With
our member boards, the Association has been identifying ways to
improve pharmacist well-being and safety and helping stakeholders
gear up for the imminent deadline for the final provisions of the Drug
Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) to go into effect. There's no doubt
that we've been keeping busy.
This issue of Innovations focuses on DSCSA
and Pulse by NABP™, a platform that helps
with DSCSA compliance and beyond. An
overview of Pulse and its goals is provided
in this issue, and you will undoubtedly
be hearing more about this service as it
continues to be rolled out for use by supply
chain trading partners and state regulators.
The website and other resources are also
available for learning more about Pulse.
On November 27, 2023, just a couple
months from when this issue mails, every
pharmacy licensed in the United States will
need to be prepared to exchange transaction
information and statements electronically,
with a unique product identifier for each
package. And that's just the tip of the
iceberg with these new requirements.
Whether you're a regulator, a pharmacist, a
distributor, a manufacturer, a supply chain
stakeholder, or just a curious onlooker, I
encourage each of you to review Food and
Drug Administration's guidance regarding
these requirements. Also, don't forget that
NABP can be a valuable resource if you
have questions or concerns. Educational
materials, including a home study webinar,
are available on the NABP website, and
members are free to reach out to NABP staff
with questions about DSCSA via email at
memberrelations@nabp.pharmacy.
Helping pharmacies and the rest of the
supply chain meet the requirements of
DSCSA over this last decade has seemed
daunting at times, but together, we have
shown the wisdom and fortitude needed to
succeed. As we reach for this final milestone,
NABP and your Executive Committee
remain committed to supporting our
member boards every step of the way.
