NABP Inspectors Participate in Annual Workshop
Twenty-nine NABP inspectors met at NABP Headquarters in Mount Prospect, IL, on July 24-26, 2023, to participate in the 2023 NABP Contractor Workshop.
In July 2023, NABP welcomed to its annual
workshop the professionals who perform
NABP inspections and accreditation surveys.
The workshop, held at NABP Headquarters,
featured updates on the industry, as well as
surveys and inspections. Items covered during
the workshop included compliance updates on
NABP accreditation programs and inspection
processes; an overview of United States
Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapters <795>, <797>,
<800>, and <825>, including new tools that
will go into effect November 2023; the Verified
Pharmacy ProgramĀ® inspection form changes
made to align with the USP Chapter changes;
updates on the regulatory landscape from the
NABP Member Relations and Government
Affairs department; updates about durable
medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics,
and supplies; an annual review of the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act;
and an update on legal issues.
Panel-led discussions included topics such
as tips on conducting inspections and shared
insights obtained during inspections. Small
groups were facilitated to discuss important
compliance topics. Inspectors who perform
sterile compounding facility inspections
completed a gown and garb qualification,
and witnessed a demonstration on how to
prepare and enter a cleanroom suite.
Cheri Atwood, RPh, a pharmacist who
worked for the Mississippi Board of Pharmacy
for 20 years, noted that this meeting is a
great opportunity for NABP's independent
contractors to collaborate and build onto their
preexisting knowledge within the field.
In fact, Jim Velez, RPh, a nuclear pharmacist
of 40 years, has attended the annual training
for seven years and identified the meeting as a
unique experience for contractors to learn how
to adapt to challenges faced within the field
through group discussions and activities.
The meeting gives insight into how
compliance work is performed within
different states, said Peter Ragosta, Sr, RPh,
executive director of the Rhode Island Board
of Pharmacy. He also said it is a beneficial way
to connect and share ideas with colleagues.
