The NACUFS Collegiate Dining Body of Knowledge™ framework
The NACUFS Collegiate Dining Body of Knowledge™ is a cohesive framework that is divided into the five
primary knowledge domains outlined in the graphic below. The knowledge domains are further divided
into subdomains, which identify specific groupings of related competencies. Each subdomain identifies
the core competencies, which define the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) that enable professionals
to successfully perform their work.

Functions
Because job titles, positions, and roles vary widely between institutions, learners are categorized by
function, allowing professionals to quickly identify the core competencies most relevant to their current
(or aspirational) development needs and goals. These functional areas may reflect separate roles within a
department or one person may be responsible for both functions at their institution.
The two functions are:
SUPERVISION AND MANAGEMENT
Personnel who oversee campus
dining operations, programs, staff
and/or other resources.
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP
Personnel who establish strategy and
direction for achieving the goals and
mission of the dining program within
the institution.
