are desperately looking for staff. Most of these
establishments know that the key to acquiring
quality staff is to act quickly. They streamline the
application process:
* Applicants can apply via paper application or
online. The process is quick, simple, and they
offer a mobile-friendly option.
* They allow people to apply via text message or
by scanning a QR code.
* No waiting! The manager can reach out to
prospective applicants the same day they apply.
* The foodservice establishment will interview the
applicant on the spot or within 24-48 hours.
* The applicant can start work within 24-48 hours.
A process that
previously
took a
minimum of
three to four
weeks can
now be done
in less than
seven days.
C&Us cannot possibly compete with the quick and efficient systems that its
competitors are using. Or can we?
Purdue Dining & Culinary sought to challenge this notion by working with the school's
talent acquisition department. By sharing concerns about delays in the existing
application process and offering suggestions, the following outcomes were achieved to
streamline the process:
* Applicants can express interest in entry-level dining positions without filling out the
full university application.
* Dining has access to names within 12-24 hours and can respond quickly. Waiting
more than a day or two can lead the applicant to forget they even applied for the
position. Reaching out immediately helps ensure they are still enthusiastic about the
job.
* Purdue Dining contacts applicants via text to schedule an interview, receiving a
much higher response rate via text than via phone calls or emails.
* Once an applicant arrives for their interview, staff assists them with filling out the full
online application, offers a tour of dining facilities, and conducts an interview.
* Purdue Dining typically makes an offer within about 24 hours and the employee
starts work within a few days.
* A process that previously took a minimum of three to four weeks can now be done
in less than seven days.
While speed is crucial, quality can't be sacrificed. The goal is to create a fast, efficient
process that doesn't compromise on hiring top talent. By streamlining the application
process, Purdue has been able to attract and retain the best employees for its dining
programs.
Indeed reports that most job seekers typically apply for six to seven jobs within 15
minutes. Applicants have numerous options, and they cannot afford to wait 60-90 days
for a position. With local competition maintaining an edge, campus dining needs to do
better. Working with the institution's talent acquisition team to review hiring processes
and remove unnecessary barriers can help ensure that no more great candidates are
lost to slow, outdated processes. §
