that what we all want-to be seen? "
Cushman echoed the importance of employee recognition
in helping overcome some of the challenges faced in
foodservice.
" Employee recognition programs like the High 5 Award are
crucial because they boost morale, enhance job satisfaction,
and can reduce turnover in a high-stress environment. This
program has helped our department overcome challenges like
burnout and low motivation by celebrating a positive work
culture, " he said. " This program helps our team feel valued
and appreciated, which has a ripple effect on performance
and customer service. "
The program has been well received by employees
throughout TTU Hospitality Services, with over 800 frontline
workers eligible to participate.
" Frontline employees are the individuals who interact with our
guests and other employees daily, " explained Panon. " This can
be our baristas at our Starbucks locations, food line servers
at The Fresh Plate, and food service leaders that help oversee
our food courts like The Market and The Commons. "
The excitement surrounding the award is heightened by the
inclusion of Timberlake's " Can't Stop the Feeling, " which has
become a fun and memorable part of the surprise. Panon
said he chose the song because " it's extremely catchy, and
everyone knows it! "
" The song holds a special meaning to me, as it has been
in some of the happiest moments of my life, which is the
emotion I want to share with my coworkers, " said Panon. " I
believe it has created a brand... (which is) the emotion that it
evokes when I play it. "
As Texas Tech's Hospitality Services looks toward the future,
the High 5 Award continues to play a critical role in boosting
morale, fostering a sense of community, and retaining
employees.
" When our coworkers and customers see that we care about
our employees, it makes them proud to be a part of the team
and the university, " said Cushman. §
