twenty-four members were able to engage with each other
and learn new management skills. Feedback from the program
was extremely positive and participants stated they would
recommend it to their peers. NACUFS will continue to offer
this online program post-pandemic and registration is now
open for the online offering set to begin on May 12. By offering
online programs, more members can access valuable training
at an affordable rate, which is something members have asked
NACUFS to provide.
In December, Rich Neumann, M.S., FMP, director of culinary
services, Ohio University, traveled to NACUFS in East Lansing
to record a new financial management series titled Financial
Management for Foodservice. This new, asynchronous online
learning opportunity will provide prerequisite material to
learners interested in future in-person financial workshops, by
laying out a solid foundation for implementing and utilizing
financial tools within their foodservice operations.
In addition, NACUFS is working on a sustainability project.
The task force, chaired by Steve Mangan, senior director
Michigan Dining, University of Michigan, is developing a
Sustainability Guide, a self-assessment, and a benchmarking
tool combined with a series of training videos for frontline staff.
These resources will focus on ten key issues where college
and university foodservice operators can make the biggest
difference for our environment, for social equity, for diners, and
for the sustainability goals of our campuses.

Work on the NACUFS Foundation wrapped up at the beginning
of January with the transfer of funds from the Clark E. DeHaven
Scholarship Trust to the NACUFS Foundation. The funds will
continue supporting student scholarships and as additional
fundraising occurs, funds in the foundation will also support
member learning programs.
NACUFS' latest strategic plan was sunset at the end of calendar
year 2020. Because of the pandemic and the inability of the board
to meet in person, we have delayed updating the strategic plan.
During the spring board of trustees meeting, board members
will utilize the information gathered from the membership survey
you all completed a little over a year ago to refresh and write a
strategic plan that will provide direction and guide NACUFS over
the next 3-5 years.
I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the
volunteers and the NACUFS staff for the work they have done
over the past year. Working together as a group, they have
accomplished so much in a few short months to further enhance
membership value and their successes have been numerous!!

We just wrapped up this year's version of regional conferences,
the NACUFS 2021 Spring Conference. The Regional
Ambassadors and NACUFS staff put together a great
conference and worked to ensure all members found value in
participating. The Regional Ambassadors were awesome in
their role as hosts. You may recall, last fall the board of trustees
voted to change the title of the Regional Directors to Regional
Ambassadors. Kristina Patridge, NACUFS president-elect is
meeting with this group monthly to further develop their roles
and responsibilities as they ready themselves for additional
roles in the association. The ambassadors taking on the role as
host of the Spring Conference was a result of the work Kristina
is doing with the group.
