PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Start Your New Year Fresh
The second New Year task on my annual
start-of-the-year checklist involves
decluttering. When I first started doing
this purge, it included cleaning up
emails and voicemails, deleting old text
messages, and dumping piles of papers
that get filed away with hopes of reusing.
Over the last few years, decluttering has
grown to help change our workplace by
organizing areas in our business that
aren't helping to support our company
goals and vision. This includes removing
obsolete parts and unused product lines,
removing spare parts with the odd chance
of using them, and recycling old catalogs
that have collected more dust than
data. This year specifically, the declutter
will take place in a different format. To
support our 2024 goals, we must free up
our inventory, both physical and online, to
make the transition into new software as
easily as possible. As mentioned before,
starting the new year brings a new level
of refreshment-what better way to
feel that " freshly made bed with clean
sheets " feeling than to clean up the area
around you?
Developing Personal &
Professional Growth
The last series of beginning-of-the-year
planning involves the pursuit of personal
and professional growth. We all hear of
people setting New Year's resolutions
that include eating better, exercising
more, or dropping a bad habit, but anyone
stepping foot in a gym on January 2 can
vouch for the accuracy of this statement.
While health and fitness are important
parts of the big picture of well-being,
I am referring to growth as a business
owner and a person. Last year's goal was
to become more organized, set stricter
calendars, and tick boxes on to-do lists.
This became an effective practice that has
become commonplace now.
This year I have challenged myself to
do more reading, educating myself, and
finding a new hobby. The latter will not
be difficult, as picking up odd activities is
something I have become accustomed to
since finishing college, but the first two
include stepping outside of my comfort
zone. I have chosen to take on reading
some specific texts written by some of the
most successful business people across
the globe. The chosen texts for the 2024
year are as follows:
− " Psycho-Cybernetics " by Maxwell Maltz
− " Your Next Five Moves: Master the Art of
Business Strategy " by Patrick Bet-David
− " Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned
Doing Stupid Stuff " by Chip Gaines
These books have been recommended by
several sources, and I am looking forward
to expanding my thinking going into this
year. I would highly recommend setting
reading goals to fulfill each year as a
form of self-growth.
The focus of my year involves creating
tangible goals and using my time,
resources, and network to help execute
these goals. If you had asked me
ten years ago what my New Year's
Resolution would be, I'm sure it would
look much different than what is listed
above. The ideas, values, and lessons
learned from NARSA/IDEA and its
members have put me in a position to
give the most to my business and my
customers over the upcoming year and
create a strong foundation for personal
growth and success during this process.
