What do Icelandic people eat? " Some
people may think that our traditional
dishes are very strange like sheep heads
and stomachs, " said Margrét. " We also
have very good fresh fish. In February, we
have a very old tradition where we have
parties, and we eat food like it was done
in the old days. "
What also may make Iceland different
from other places is that it is very safe.
" You can put your children out to play,
and you do not need to worry, " said
Margrét. " You can also put children in
prams to nap outside your home. " Iceland
and other Scandinavian cultures believe
that fresh air and nature is good for a
child's health and development.
" Iceland is a very beautiful country, " said
Margrét. " We have beautiful glaciers
and a lot of waterfalls. You can see the
Northern lights in the winter time. We
have a lot of pools and hot springs like
the Blue Lagoon. We also have whales
and puffins. "
Another interesting aspect is shown in
how Icelandic people heat their homes,
due to the country's unique weather
and geology. Iceland is situated along
the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and actually lies
over a volcanic hotspot. Magma from
underneath the island heats underground
water reservoirs. " Our hot water and
electricity comes from geothermal
power, " Margrét. " We heat our homes
with hot water. In the summertime, it
doesn't get dark, so it's bright most of the
day. And when it's hot inside, we just open
our windows to bring in the fresh air. "
When it comes to NARSA, the
Ingibergsson family first learned about
the association after meeting some
like-minded professionals in the United
Kingdom. Both Margrét and her husband
Bjarki Logason also attended the 2023
NARSA International Tour in the Middle
East where they got to connect with
other members from around the world.
" We have been able to get a lot of help
when we are looking for parts, thanks to
other NARSA members, " said Margrét.
" What we do is a bit different from our
colleagues in the United States. We do not
service a lot of big units, but when we do,
we sometimes contact other members to
help us out. We think this is a great thing. "
Margrét and Helgi's father Ingibergur
Ingibergsson, now age 79, still visits the
shop, but he doesn't do any repair work
anymore. Margrét's husband Bjarki will
sometimes come in when it's really busy.
" But today, it's just me and my brother, "
said Margrét. " We are a small familyowned
company, so we work long hours. "
