PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Corey's grandfather Virgil Roppel turned
100 in 2024
small at-home exercises. This approach lasts
throughout the year.
In business, we as a company set small
goals for the year. Over time, these small
goals are what make us successful. We
continually work toward these small goals
and continue to add small goals as we go.
For example, we need to do better with our
operations, making them more efficient. I
could be motivated to change this and go in
and restructure everything we do. However,
that will only work in the short term. For
long-term change, we must have buy-in
and have everyone aligned, working toward
the same goal. This is where consistency
comes into play. We make incremental
changes, such as ensuring all LTL shipments
are weighed and photographed. So, when
freight companies reclassify shipments or
a customer call about receiving damaged
products, we can fight the carrier
companies. While this approach doesn't
yield immediate results, the long-term
savings are significant.
Another example is with the sales team.
We set a lofty goal of 35% growth from
the jump, but this could cause the team to
be demotivated. Instead, we give them an
agreed-upon growth target that motivates
them to get started. Then, during the
year, we give them consistent promos and
incentives that, in turn, help us hit the higher
growth percentage.
When I say I looked to the past for
thoughts, I looked at my grandfather. He
was the founder of Roppel Radiator, which
has now grown into Roppel Industries. Last
year, he reached a milestone by turning
100 years old. He is a perfect example
of a guy who is consistent. For as long
as anyone can remember, he has been
consistent with his habits. He doesn't eat
breakfast or lunch, has steak multiple
times a week, and has a minimum of two
ET (Early Times Bourbon) and cokes every
day. He enjoys these cocktails at the same
bar in his dedicated seat (the bar tagged
with a plaque to reserve it for him). He has
been very consistent over the years with
his routine, and it has proven to be a very
successful model.
In closing, I am very excited to see where
2025 takes us all. I am also very excited
for the opportunity to be NARSA/IDEA
President. We have some great changes
and new things coming that I think all
members will appreciate. We, as the
NARSA/IDEA Board, are consistently
working for change and making sure this
organization is strong for years to come.
Happy New Year!! I wish you all great
success this year. Stay consistent and the
success will follow.
