GLOBAL ON-BOARD
SOLUTIONS FOR THE
MANAGEMENT OF A
DRILLING MACHINES
FLEET FOR DRILL & BLAST
For more than 30 years, LIM has been
designing and developing embedded solutions
for drilling in the Mining sector
worldwide.
In recent years, a global on-board solution
has been developed by LIM for the
production drilling in the mining sector.
This global solution is broken down into
a production part and a drilling machine
monitoring
part,
this regardless
the
brand and model of this latter.
The production part consists of the
NaviLIM RTK GNSS (GPS) drill guidance
PocketLIM
application and LIM @ mail
cloud based service.
The NaviLIM is an application of the
PocketLIM system that allows the operator
to position the drill bit with a very high
accuracy (GPS RTK technology) on the
planned location of the borehole, whether
the latter is vertical or inclined, on the basis
of a drill pattern uploaded to the recorder.
So, the NaviLIM can replace the layout
of the boreholes carried out by a surveyor
(see attachment #1).
LIM @ mail is a cloud based service
that performs the synchronization,
uploading and automatic data preprocessing
of the MWD datafiles
recorded by the PocketLIM data
recorder. The datafile used is the
open and documented BOR format
(https://bor-form.at/en/). For the presentation
of the borehole logs with
MWD, the templates are specific for
each customers.
In order to control the quality
and geotechnical nature of the drilling,
LIM@mail sends an email notification
in real time at the end of

each drilling with attached the PDF log of
the recorded drilling parameters or MWD,
(see Attachment #2).
For the mining engineer, this application
is of a great help before loading and
shot due to he can check the quality of
the material and the density of seams and
fractures. It is also an essential trace after
firing to possibly understand and check the
quality of a blast.
The drilling machine monitoring part
consists of the Drill@LIM web application.
Drill@LIM is a cloud based solution
that provides real-time information on the
operation and geolocation of the drilling
machine (see attachment #3) as well as a
performance reporting by machines and /
or by geographic or commercial areas,
Drill @ LIM helps in the management,
control and real-time monitoring of a fleet
of several dozen drills by giving information
on the status of the machines (engine
parameters, machine parameters, alerts,
etc.) regardless their type, brand and model.
As
a case study, the company Newcomat,
a French player known for the rental
of production drilling machines for drill
and blast all over the country has installed
PocketLIM drilling data recording systems
on all the drill rigs of its fleet. The drill rigs
fleet is composed of five Epiroc (T40, D50),
five Sandvik (DX700, DI450, DX900i),
eight Furukawa (HCR1550, HCR1800,..)
and one TMB 28 .
Thanks to the Drill@LIM web application,
the Newcomat production manager is
informed in real time about the exact geolocation
of each drill rig with technical and
production information concerning the
hammer, machine and engine parameters.
And above all, in case of breakdown or
incident, he is able to make promptly his
decision, this thanks to the Drill@LIM application
real time alert system.
A single system installed on the drill
rig, the PocketLIM, a single player, LIM,
whatever the brand and type of machine
for a global solution.
