A Successful Best in the
West in 2022: Recap
The Black Hills and Northern Plains
Chapters hosted an exciting Best in
the West Drill and Blast Conference in
Spearfish, South Dakota, in April 2022.
Attendees, exhibitors, speakers, and
sponsors came together to create a successful
conference with valuable training
and networking.
Everyone had a great time catching
up after taking two years off from the
conference due to the pandemic. " It was
a breath of fresh air to be back together
again, " said one conference attendee.
Three pre-conference events were
held on a beautiful, sunny morning: the
Crazy Horse Mountain Tour, Paul Muehl
Scholarship Trap Shoot, and the Bob
Martin Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The golf outing was held at the
Spearfish Canyon Golf Club. Thirty-five
golfers raised more than $1,500 for the
Bob Martin Scholarship. Sponsors included:
Nelson Brothers, Enaex, Dyno,
Buckley, Austin Powder, F&H Mining,
Wesco, and Mincon. The winning team
included Bob Labbe, Nate Frederick, Paul
Pesek and Jeff Kidnt.

Appreciation Event
The Kentucky Bluegrass Chapter of
The ISEE had a successful member appreciation
event at the Keenland Tailgate
Party on April 23rd, 2022. There were
approximately 60 people who came to
socialize and enjoy a free lunch. There
was access to televisions to watch the
races and wagering tents to place bets.

exhibit hall, exceptional speakers covering
a range of topics, welcome back
party, scholarship presentations, awards
banquet and live auction.
Proceeds from the BITW Conference
support explosives and mineral industry
student scholarships, which promotes
and perpetuates the mining and explosives
industry. Over $12,000 was presented
to students this year as a result of
the conference and auction.

the Best in the West scholarship fund!
