of which 91 are firm. No additional orders
for the aging 737NG and A320ceo were
announced anymore. For Embraer, the situation was different as the "old" E1 E-Jet
once more outsold the E2. Boeing's new
Brazilian partner counted 230 commitments
for the E1, of which 25 are firm but recorded
only 70 orders for the E2, of which 12 are
firm. The E175 still remains the top-selling
model for Embraer as this still seems to be
the preferred aircraft for North American
regional airlines.
Due to scope-clauses in pilot contracts,
U.S. major carriers are limited in the size
and number of larger regional jets that
are operated on their behalf of regional
airlines. The capacity limit is defined by
passenger capacity, as well as maximum

takeoff weight (MTOW). Due to their modern, larger engines, both the Embraer
175-E2 and the MRJ90 exceed the MTOW
limit and hence cannot be operated by
regional airlines. While Embraer still has
the E175-E1 as an alternative, MRJ will
probably have to refocus its efforts from
the MRJ90 to the smaller MRJ70.
The former Bombardier CSeries, now in
the hands of Airbus, had a relatively successful Airshow with an order for 60 planes
from a new U.S. airline, reportedly founded
by David Neeleman and dubbed "Moxy,"
although this will likely not be the definitive name for the operation. Just prior to
the Airshow, Neeleman's former U.S. airline,
JetBlue, already ordered 60 A330-200s to
replace its Embraer E190 fleet.

Thinking Big
Remarkably enough, the best-selling widebody at Farnborough was the Boeing 777
Freighter with no fewer than 55 commitments, of which 15 are firm. Volga Dnepr
was the largest customer with a 29-aircraft
strong LoI/MoU, directly followed by DHL
with commitments for 21 of these large
freighters. Volga Dnepr also ordered five
Boeing 747-8Fs. The best-selling passenger
widebody once more was the Boeing 787 with
52 commitments, including 15 firm orders.
Boeing also closed a LoI/MoU with Novus
Aviation Capital for the 777-300ER. By selling almost 60 of the older generation 777s,
Boeing managed to fill significant segments
of their production slots that were still open
before production of the 777X begins.
