I was in two years ago. I encourage them all by explaining how my
career has developed with the assistance of ISTAT in the hope that
the story will repeat itself many times over.
"Fortis Fortuna Adiuvat" (Latin for "fortune favors the bold")
certainly holds true for my career so far. But, undoubtedly, a
large part of my success has been due to the support of the
ISTAT Foundation Board of Trustees and the contributors to the
ISTAT Foundation who enable it to provide funds to students as
well as to educational and humanitarian organizations around
the world. I'm also indebted to the willingness of ISTAT members
and companies to share experiences and knowledge with those of
us intending to become the next generation of industry leaders.
It is an honor to be invited to address readers of the Jetrader
and in doing so, I wanted to tell you that you have a direct impact
on students and their futures - whether it is through chance
meetings at ISTAT conferences, sharing your own experience as
an ISTAT University teacher or in employing a young student for
an internship. You may just happen to be the key differentiator
that results in someone electing to join this unique community.
If we want to remain a successful industry with a holistic
perspective, we are in need of talent and people who engage
themselves in bringing forward the next generation. Personally,
I think it all comes down to what Airbus Americas President and
CEO Jeff Knittel said at his NextGen motivational speech at ISTAT
Americas in San Diego when he advised us all to think every day
about what you can do to bring your team, your company and
your industry as a whole forward.
