Dear Fellow ISTAT Members,
In July, ISTAT hosted its biannual chalet and reception in conjunction with the
Farnborough Airshow. The ISTAT Airshow
Reception was held on the first night of
the show at its longstanding home, the
beautiful Grosvenor House in the heart
of Mayfair. A record crowd of 1,240 ISTAT
members and guests gathered on Monday
evening for an opportunity to discuss the
announcements of the first day of the show
(plenty of airplane orders) and speculate
on announcements expected to come later
in the week (more airplane orders). The
ISTAT Airshow Reception has very much
become the kickoff event of the airshow
week, allowing ISTAT members to mingle
with their clients, colleagues and even
competitors under the friendly confines
of ISTAT's "big tent."
The airshow week also marked the return
of the ISTAT Chalet. As the original proposer of the Chalet, I am very pleased that
an initiative that was once far from universally favored in its early years has over time
become accepted and welcomed by virtually
everyone. The Chalet has become a fixture
in ISTAT's constellation of member offerings, providing a welcome place for members to host meetings, catch up between
meetings at other chalets and, yes, even
occasionally watch the planes fly by.
More than a few members shared with
me this year - as many others have in
previous years - that having the ISTAT
Chalet markedly changes the entire airshow
experience for members for the better. We
had, once again, quite literally the coolest chalet. Temperatures outside may have
pierced 30°C/86°F, but it never got above
20°C/68°F inside the "penguin house," as
it was dubbed.
While many members leave the airshow
by the end or even middle of the week, the
ISTAT Chalet remains open for the entirety
of the show, including the two public days
at the close of the show on Saturday and
Sunday. It is at the tail end of the airshow
week when two wonderful events take
place that can't help but make you feel
proud of the work that ISTAT does and the

generosity and support of our individual
and corporate members.
On Friday and Saturday, we opened the
ISTAT Chalet to the children of our members. Watching the faces of young children
experiencing the airshow displays, often for
the first time, is a reminder to all of us,
no matter how jaded, what amazing things
this industry creates.
On Sunday, we once again opened the
Chalet to the children and families from
Shooting Star Chase, a leading children's
hospice charity caring for children and
young people with life-limiting conditions. As you will see in the photos later
in this magazine, the children and their
family members had a wonderful time,
with balloon artists, face painters and
visits to the chalet by pilots and cadets
enhancing the day-long experience for
our guests.
In conjunction with the ISTAT Charity
Day, I specifically want to thank our corporate members - Airbus, BOC Aviation
Limited, Boeing, Bombardier, DVB, Horizon
Executive Search Intl., PwC, ORIX Aviation
and Pratt & Whitney - for their generous
contributions to the gift bags we provided
to all children in attendance. I also want
to thank the ISTAT staff and GES staff
(our Chalet contractors) for their efforts

to accommodate our special guests and
to our chalet sponsors - BOC Aviation,
CAS Aircraft Maintenance, Aerolease, Willis
Aero, AVITAS, PwC and Vallair - who
helped make the chalet itself possible.
Many thanks, as well, to the Farnborough
Airshow organizers, who arranged VIP
vehicle access and generously provided
complimentary admission to the airshow
grounds. Finally, a big thanks to the staff
of Shooting Star Chase for their efforts in
putting together such a great day.
As we move through late summer into
autumn, the ISTAT board and ISTAT staff is
gearing up for ISTAT EMEA, which returns to
Prague, as well as the ISTAT Latin America
Forum, which moves to Lima. Thanks to
the hard work of the respective conference committees, both seem poised for
great success.
