STORE 2015 EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
This year's edition of RCC's STORE Conference focused on
the disruptors within the retail industry and the ways the
best and brightest retailers are leveraging the disruptions
for success and growth.

RETAIL is about detail. And today it's also about disruption.
From the digital revolution and the explosion of mobile to
ecommerce and the threat of cyber breaches, the industry
faces challenges like it has never faced before. However,
as the country's leading retailers prove time and again,
if these challenges are met head on, the opportunities to
transform and enhance the retail experience for customers are innumerable. With this in mind, Retail Council of
Canada's (RCC) STORE 2015-Canada's foremost retail
conference-focused on the ways the industry is harnessing disruption to continue to grow and succeed. Here then
are the top five takeaways from STORE 2015.
The significance of the physical store
Ecommerce sales and the Canadian consumer's willingness to purchase online continues to grow. In fact, gains
in online sales are growing at such a rapid rate that many
question the role of the physical store. The Conference's
opening keynote remarks delivered by Jerry Storch, CEO
of Hudson's Bay Company, set a tone for delegates-and
that is that the physical store is still of great significance
to the overall health of every retailer, and is perhaps even
more significant now than ever before. As retailers continue
to enhance their omni-channel operations, physical stores
become important hubs where merchandise is showcased
to tell compelling stories, staff can engage customers with
superior knowledge and information, and the retail experience is elevated to deliver unsurpassed service.

The digital revolution
Digital technologies are helping to
transform the customer shopping experience. And consumers are feeding into that
transformation via their behaviour and
engagement on devices and other digital
technologies. Throughout the conference,
sessions offered best practices to delegates
concerning ways the digital revolution can
be leveraged to grow sales, expand brand
presence, engage customers on a deeper
level and create a seamless experience on
multiple channels to remain top-of-mind
to the consumer at all times.
The rise of mobile
Mobile technologies have presented
retailers with an opportunity to remain
connected to their consumer. And these
technologies have also opened the door to
a new and alternative method of payment.
However, the potential of mobile payments
in Canada remains largely untapped.
Leading retailers showed attendees how
mobile can help digitize unique commerce
experiences for Canadians. They warned,
however, that the payments experience
must be convenient and secure.
