musician
Interview with Bruce Delteil, Managing Director for
Accenture Strategy and... an accomplished musician!

Could you tell us more about your current
responsibilities at Accenture in Singapore
today?
At the moment, I am leading our business strategy practice within the newly created Accenture
Strategy. Accenture is making a bold move and
combining its high-value consulting activities,
across business strategy, operations and technology into a new group, dedicated to crafting innovative strategies for its clients. In the era of digital
strategy and given the strong technology dimension, we believe our current value proposition is
perfectly aligned with what organizations need.
Our business strategy practice focuses more on
the cross-industry areas: mergers & acquisitions,
private equity, large scale transformation matters,
digital strategies and we also have a group dedicated to commodities and trading. I manage the
practice for ASEAN.
And, you find the time to pursue your music
related activities?
Yes of course! You know, your hobby is like sport,
you need to find the discipline to do it. It keeps
you fresh, ready to go, it opens your perspectives
and I am sure that, to a certain extent, it does help
you professionally as well!
Tell us more about your music?
Well, I spent 12 years in Indonesia, in Jakarta, and
that is when I decided to put together a little rock
band, rather than sitting in my living room alone
with my guitar. The whole thing started back in
2003. More than 10 years already! Initially the
idea was to have a group of friends playing the
music we like and playing it to others as well.
How so? What kind of music does the band
«Flying Syrup» play?
All of us have been passionate about all the music
British artists have created and played since the
sixties. So of course it started with the Beatles
and the Rolling Stones, and went through the fol-

lowing decades, with The Police in the eighties,
bands like with Blur, Oasis, Radiohead in the nineties, evolving with the likes of Franz Ferdinand
and many others till today.
Initially the plan was to play a few gigs here and
there. But... we became better than we thought
we would and were then asked to play major
events like magazines anniversaries, festivals and
others. And I guess it is like anything in life, you
tell yourself you will keep it to a certain level and
when things go well you try to push that level even
higher.
And that what led to the new album?
Yes indeed. I have always been writing songs and
after a few years, I told the guys that we should
do something with them. So we started by testing
them live, and make better versions of the original demos. Then we got into recording, and that
itself took like two to three years. Then came the
following stages like mixing and mastering. But
that also takes time, because when it is your own
babies you tend to invest yourself emotionally a lot
more than on other things. The album was finally
ready in September 2013, although the first single and video «Out Of My Mind» was launched a
few weeks before that.
Where have you been playing? Where will
you play?
We launched the album on January 10th 2014
in Singapore in a little place called «Home Club»
which is an amazing place for all musicians and
have been playing it a few times already in different
places across Southeast Asia and will continue to
do so. The plan is to be part of the line-ups of
major festival in the regions... But we would also,
in much more humble manner, to keep to what we
got into this in the first place which was having
fun. And that is what we do. Anyone can always
