Event Triumph Inspiration Awards n a fabulous catwalk show at the Triumph Inspiration Award ’08 in Beijing, students of prestigious design schools from around the world presented their conceptual showpiece-sets, comprising of an underwired bra and brief. All finalists gathered from 31 countries and regions competed in pre-Olympic Beijing at the avant-garde 798 Art Zone situated in the Dashanzi Area. Here in Beijing’s bohemian quarter, they demonstrated innovation and creativity in interpreting the design theme ‘Female Fascination’. “What we love most is the fact that the students were asked to free themselves of the commercial side of things - almost no restraints were put on their creativity“, stated judges Viktor & Rolf. The high profile judging panel consisted of design duo Viktor and Rolf, Danish top model Helena Christensen, German fashion photography icon Ellen von Unwerth, Colette’s chief purchaser and creative director Sarah from Colette, and Chinese top model and actress Lv Yan together with Triumph’s Jan Rosenberg. Under the scrutiny of the demanding judges, entries were assessed on their individuality and uniqueness, concept, aesthetics, quality in design and execution as well as presentation. On July 31st the city of Beijing hosted the inaugural edition of the Triumph Inspiration Awards. The A-list panel of judges including Helena Christensen, Lv Yan and Viktor & Rolf found inspiration and creativity abound in the winning lingerie design from young contestant, Midori Matsuo of Japan. I The winner of this inaugural event was 20 year old Midori Matsuo of Japan. Her bold and playful design “Under Skin” deserves to be called the most inspired, and inspiring, of them all in 2008. Awarded prizes by gold-medallist Linford Christie and actress Michelle Lee, the show was a true spectacle in a Beijing gearing up for the Olympic games. Midori Matsuo not only received a cash prize of Euro 15,000 but a career-boosting limited edition release of her winning piece and a commercial adaptation of her design will be produced for sale at selected Triumph stores worldwide. For their outstanding entries second place winner Theresa Bachler, 21, of Germany received Euro 10,000 with the design “Once Upon a Time…” and Stine Fagervik-Rosèn, 28, of Norway took third place with Desire for Beautiful Trash, receiving Euro 5,000. 1.
