Portrait Ooh là là Wendy Glez 30 year old, LA based Designer, Wendy Crowe is no stranger to the exquisite manufacturing of beautiful lingerie and sleepwear. From that first fateful visit to her father’s garment factory at the age of seven, Wendy Crowe immediately fell in love with fashion. As a regular fixture at the factory, when she was not hovering over the pattern maker’s shoulder or assistant designing, Crowe spent her time sewing her own designs and pouring over the pages of countless fashion publications. An early starter At the age of 15, Wendy dived head first into the retail business, initially working for major brands as a fragrance model on Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive and later as a makeup artist for Shiseido and MAC. During this time she learned personal selling, the art of merchandising and the world of fragrance. After graduation from high school Wendy formalised her training at Otis Fashion School and Pepperdine University Business School in Florence. On her return home, under the mentorship of her father, Everardo Gonzalez, Wendy was inspired by the ease of the Californian lifestyle and European sophistication to launch Wendy Glez© Lingerie and Loungewear. Glez, an abbreviation of her maiden name Gonzalez, was quick to identify a void in the market for original, versatile, comfortable, and chic contemporary lingerie and loungewear. Today her collections include knickers, chemises, cropped pants, camisoles and tunics. “Wendy Glez was never going to be mass market. I knew I was going to work in a niche market. I believe it was my attention to detail, craftsmanship, and quality of design that instantly gave me a place as a new contender in a staid industry,” states Glez. Closely supported by her father, a veteran in the business of 27 years, Crowe promptly paved her path to the largest US retailers with both Nordstrom and Anthropologie signing her on across the country. WENDY Crowe tween innerwear and outerwear. Today, Wendy remains inspired by her local beach town and her trips to Europe. Crowe believes that her four seasonal collections are a mere extension of herself, exuding sophistication, beauty, and ease. Rather then bend to the competitive pressures of off shoring manufacturing, Crowe has chosen to keep the manufacturing in the family and locally manufactures her exquisitely detailed designs under a “Made in the City of Angels” label. “Dad still has the cutting. We sublet the sewing with our local contractors and despite the costs being higher and wages and power costs increasing, I have total control over my product. We use a lot of the very finest European laces and fabrics so it’s great to control it here where absolutely everything is tested.
