Matching decorations If you are an enthusiast of both light and refined layouts, the following tips are for you. Mylen, Benedict and Sophie have prepared tone-on-tone decorated layouts for you. by Mylen Chartier, Bénédicte Raphalen and Sophie Hermand Scrapbooking and architecture... So we know that the embossing technique, in scrapbooking, allows decorating photos with original shapes positioned around it. But what is the origin of the word? Scrapbooking here borrows from the vocabulary of architecture, which uses bossing stones. The anterior surface of the stone - the one exposed to view - is cut to form a projection (=boss) on the contemplated wall. It is what is called a bossing course of stones. Several possible aspects: if the projection of the exposed surface is left rough we will speak of rusticated bossing; if the projection is cut into a pyramid we can call it diamond point bossing; if it is cut into a half sphere, we speak of a ball - boss; if within each projection one carves irregular twisty bends, one gets vermiculated bossing that recalls the work of worms in wood. We can find bossing devices at each century and for all tastes... But the absolute model, including three different types of bosses depending on which floor, is the Medici-Riccardi Palace, built around 1445, in Florence, so beautiful, so powerful that it became the model for building most of the Florentine palaces of the fifteenth century. «  Balade à Sesquières (An outing to Sesquières)  » by Mylen Chartier Embossing effects Using a tone-on-tone harmony will allow you to decorate your layouts with finesse. So you can, as Mylen did with the foliage, cut a shape from a piece of plain paper and glue it onto a rectangle of the same paper. It gives the impression of embossing that you can perform anywhere on your layout. If you do not have a die-cutting machine, just take your circle punches; the effect will be similar. On graph paper, it will be 12 HISTOIRES DE PAGES - SEPTEMBER / OCTOBER 2013 easy to overlap the shapes and play with the relief effect. You can also play with clear embossing powder: the effect with the kraft paper is very nice and adds texture and a slight thickness to this originally smooth and plain paper. This exercise gives your plain papers a surprising little relief that we do not notice immediately: the surprise effect is guaranteed!
