Rediscover brads Buried deep in your scraproom, sometimes long forgotten, it is time to discover or rediscover a major scrapbooking basic item: brads. by Carole Maurin, Marianne Sterchi, Nelly Togbé, Catherine Labeeu and Bénédicte Raphalen Most often round, but sometimes square or fancy-shaped, they come in all sizes and all colors. Here are some creative ideas to transform this simple embellishment into a sophisticated element of decoration. A decorative disc With brads, scrapbooking has a round and flat shape - disc or button - at its disposal, one of the oldest used by Homo Sapiens. If you want to convince yourself, see p.75 where to find one of those mysterious tectiform signs - literally roof-shaped signs known in the South West of France and North of Spain. Without going back so far, it is common to use a rounded shape to attach, support, hold pieces together effectively while decorating them. For example, when a round or oval painting is adorned with a square frame, it inevitably forms four spandrels at the four corners just waiting to be filled with decorative motifs which will be all the more lavish because the sides will be ornate. The great scenes of history or religious painting are the only ones that are accompanied by this prestigious element.
