In addition to the GIS capability of PRORAGIS, you
can augment your demographic marketing data and
services from other sources such as ESRI, the makers
of the primary GIS software, " Arc Info " (http://www.
esri.com/software/bao/comparison-table.html). The
ESRI Business Analyst Online (BAO) has inexpensive
reports (less than $100.00 each) that vary from market

Getting your Data into the System
Getting to the GIS Landing Page.
1. Go to www.nrpaproragis.org and click on the blue
proraGiS login button
2. if you already have an account, log in; if not register.(you do not need to be a member to register.)
3. Click on profile management to access the profile.
4. at a minimum you must select a year for data entry; then click on " Go to profile. "
5. note the table in the lower right-hand corner that
certifies the section of the profile is complete.
6. on the second row under profile management are
the tabs for each section.
7. Click on the GiS tab (the last one on the right).
8. you can either download the excel spreadsheet or
proceed to the GiS landing page.
9. depending on your browser and the type of computer system you use, the " Share location " button is either at the top or bottom of the page. Clicking this
will bring up a map of the area where you are located.
10. each of the blue sections on the right has a question mark that, when clicked, should show what
needs to be done for upload and editing.

Uploading Your GIS Data
as of august 1 all three of the methodologies for loading your GiS information into proraGiS will be available. the method you choose will depend, to a large
extent, on your current resource inventory storage
methodology.
the possibilities include:
1. you have a GiS system in use with all your parks,
trails, and facility data loaded into a file Geo
database.
a. under import on the landing page browse your
desktop to find the appropriate file for uploading.
if you have a personal geodatabase you will need
to convert it to a file database to be compatible
with the open architecture application in use.
b. once loaded, your polygons and points should
be visible. you can click on these to see what
data has been entered into the fields.
c. if data has not been imported it may reflect different terminology-and you will need to reconcile the terms for the attributes and values.

d.
once reconciled, you are finished. maintenance
only requires periodic updates, depending on
how actively you are making changes to your
facilities and lands.
2. you have your inventory of parks, trails, and facilities on an excel or similar spreadsheet.
a. you can upload the spreadsheet as is and then
reconcile any differences. this should be avoided
unless you have already established the latitude
and longitude of the parks trails and facilities.
b. you can download the excel spreadsheet and cut
and paste your data into the appropriate fields so
your data will be compatible with the application.
c. if data has not been imported it may reflect different terminology, and you will need to reconcile the terms for the attributes and values.
d. once terms have been reconciled, you are finished. maintenance only requires periodic updates, depending on how actively you are
making changes to your facilities and lands.
3. you have no recorded inventory of parks, trails and
facilities and no direct access to GiS applications.
a. Go to the GiS landing page and click on share
location to see the map for your location.
b. once you have your jurisdiction showing on the
desktop, go to the edit section and select one of
the choices for adding parks trails and facilities.
initially you will probably want to outline the polygons for the parks. the small question mark in the
box contains instructions on creating a polygon.
c. the next step will be to complete the data set
under information for that park.
d. you can then go back to edit and select a facility
point or polygon and locate facilities within your
park.
e. this process can be repeated until you have completed your inventory. it will then be available as a
printable pdf so you have a completed inventory.
4. the above process can take some time to complete if
the data is not readily available. We encourage you to
use interns from local colleges or high schools if you
are short of personnel to complete the profile. please
