Rebuilding Infrastructure
Throughout the Northeast
With aging infrastructure among the nation’s most pressing concerns, much of Dewberry’s work in the Northeast has focused on the rehabilitation of roads, bridges, airports, piers, and other structures as well as community revitalization. Over the decades, each challenging project has informed the next, as Dewberry has worked to enhance the utility and safety of transportation systems in particular. In 1987, the Victorian-era Riverside Drive Viaduct in New York City (above) reopened after a thorough rehabilitation, a painstaking effort that preserved the intricate iron and steel structure. More than 30 years later, Dewberry applied the latest in 3-D modeling and seismic analysis to the design-build rehabilitation of the centuryold Atlantic Avenue Viaduct in Brooklyn, with construction phasing that enabled the railroad to remain in service. Other milestone projects have included reconstruction of the 1930s-era Northern State Parkway on Long Island (left), designed by Robert Moses; reconstruction of the Long Island Expressway in Queens (bottom right); multiphase improvements to Route 31 in New Jersey; and the innovative lowering and widening of the Chaplain Washington Memorial Passaic River Bridge under the Pulaski Skyway (top right), part of a major improvement program for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.
