Updated Flood Hazard Data for
Greater New Orleans Resilience
Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 resulted in massive
devastation in Greater New Orleans' ﬁve parishes.
Congress funded the construction of the $14.4 billion
Hurricane Storm Damage Risk Reduction System
(HSDRRS), which strengthened over 350 miles of
levees in the ﬁve parishes. As the construction neared
completion, RAMPP, a joint venture of Dewberry, URS,
and ESP Associates, was tasked by the Federal Emergency
Management Agency (FEMA) to update the ﬂood
hazards for the areas inside the HSDRRS. Throughout the
process, FEMA and RAMPP involved the communities in
discussions on mitigation actions and higher standards to
increase resilience and sustainability.

Communities in Connecticut
In support of SHR Energy Management's solar
energy projects, Dewberry delivered multidisciplined
engineering services on a church and four public schools
in Connecticut. SHR Energy Management develops,
builds, owns, and operates distributed and utility scale
renewable energy systems, providing ﬁnancing and grant
assistance to host facilities. Dewberry was responsible
for site feasibility studies, grant application preparation
support for the host sites, structural analysis, and
electrical engineering design. These services included
estimating how much electrical power the solar panels
would generate and what the existing electrical system
supported, as well as evaluating the host facility's
structural capacity to support the solar panels and
necessary equipment.

Dewberry helped Monday Properties' 1812 North
Moore become the tallest LEED®-Platinum building
in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., area. Dewberry
provided sustainable MEP design, energy modeling,
and commissioning services for the 390-foot-tall,
35-story, 650,000-square-foot office tower that will
feature a ﬂoor-to-ﬂoor glass curtain wall, retail
space, and a 180,000-square-foot parking structure.
Located in Rosslyn, Virginia, the Dewberry-designed
systems will consume approximately 32 percent less
energy compared to energy code compliant HVAC
systems, helping tenants realize lower operating
costs. The HVAC system with MERV 13 ﬁltration is
designed to exceed ASHRAE ventilation standards
by 30 percent while increasing daily air changes.
Additional energy-efficient features include heat
recovery systems, a series counter-ﬂow variable
primary chilled water system, economizer systems,
and demand controlled ventilation systems.
