Abdol Moabery
Founder, President and CEO, GA Telesis

ISTAT has selected Abdol Moabery as the
recipient of the 2021 ISTAT Award. The
ISTAT Award was created in 2001 to honor
individuals who have made lasting contributions
to the aviation industry. Jetrader recently
spoke to Moabery about his background,
accomplishments he's most proud of, the effect
of the pandemic on his business and more.

Jetrader: Congratulations on being
honored with the ISTAT Award.
Can you share a little about your
background? I see you were in the
Navy. Tell us about that and how that
led you to aviation.
Abdol Moabery (AM): The Navy was
definitely impactful on my life and my
career. It was an environment where
setting goals is compulsory and you
get out of it what you put into it. I found
myself in a meritocracy where the
opportunities to grow, to learn and to
travel were boundless.
Jetrader: You've held positions at
both Aviation Systems International
and C-S Aviation Services. Can you
talk about your time with those
companies?
AM: Both of those positions set the
groundwork for my career aspirations.
ASI was a smaller-sized company, so
we learned to do everything to steer

the ship. We were early to market
with used serviceable material in India
and Turkey and were instrumental in
helping develop cost-saving strategies
for airlines that emerged from openskies policies. In the early years of
development, I spent more than 250
days a year traveling to the region to
develop the market for ASI. The C-S
opportunity came along during a sales
call. C-S was just launching its P2F
strategy and was seeking someone
to help them in the Turkish and Indian
markets, which were booming, but also
someone who could create spare parts
and engine programs to support the
startup cargo airlines. Working at C-S
was one of the greatest experiences
of my career. I was able to work with
a top-notch and tight-knit team that
all worked in unison, and together
we were out to conquer the world. I
often tell people that working for that
