model, but I am positive that we will
all adopt some level of the alternative
means of communicating and working
remotely. However, the GA Telesis
message to its competitors is that if
you don't go meet your customers
face-to-face, we will.
Jetrader: How will the leasing,
parts and MRO world change postCOVID-19? Will it revert to how it
was before? If so, when?
AM: The market always recovers. The
pace of that recovery is the question.
Whether it is a " V " shape or a " U "
shape or an elongated " U " shape, the
market will return and be as robust
as it ever was. However, some things
will need to change. I think some
semblance of a risk transfer will occur
between participants. I think there
will also be a greater look at risk in
the near term. But, in the end, it won't
be long before all is as it was and we
are all complaining about the influx of
capital into our industry.
Jetrader: How have you and your
family coped with the pandemic
over the past year? Anything you
would do differently personally
going forward? Any new bucket list
items post-COVID-19?
AM: This has been extremely tough on
my family. My son was a high school
senior, so he did not experience all
the great things related to that. Then
he went to university, where he was
essentially confined to his dorm
room when he was not in class. My
daughter had a similar situation in
high school. Our children are just not
programmed for confinement, and this
hybrid form of learning is extremely
tough on them, both mentally and
educationally. All the while my wife
and I worked every single workday
at GA Telesis, not only to keep the
company operational, but to keep
morale strong. If there is any positive
side to this, because I traveled a lot
less, my golf handicap came down
to the single digits, and I spent a lot

of time enhancing my skills as an
amateur chef.
Jetrader: Speaking of golf, what is
your favorite course in the world?
Who will win this year's Masters
Tournament? What other sort of
activities and hobbies do you have
outside of aviation?
AM: Yes, as mentioned, the pandemic
has definitely impacted my golf game
in the right way. However, this is only
the second time I have not golfed in
Scotland since 1998, so that hurts.
I belong to seven golf clubs around
the world, and this year, I have
only been able to frequent the ones
in the United States. I really miss
golfing in Europe, the Middle East
and Asia. I cannot wait to get back
to it and, in fact, I have signed up
for some late spring member guest
tournaments in Ireland, with the hope
and anticipation that the vaccine will
lead to opening up borders by then.
I think the Masters will have some
fantastic play and coming off the
last tournament just a few months
back, I think we can look at the
leaderboard and point to the probable
winner. I typically attend the Masters
Tournament, but that's not in the
cards this year. What is in the cards

before. I love people and different
cultures and learning about them -
learning what makes them the same
as me and what makes them unique,
how they eat and what they eat. We
are all so very different, yet when you
put it all together, we are the same.
I love sitting with someone who is
culturally my opposite and learning
that as it relates to most things
family related, we do the exact same
thing. It shows that we all have a
common thread.
Jetrader: You have donated to
many charities through your
family foundation. Are there any in
particular you'd like to mention?
What is your guiding principle for
your philanthropy?
AM: During my upbringing, I was
always taught to be charitable but
was fortunate to learn a lot about
philanthropy from my partner George
Batchelor. George had a soft spot
in his heart for children, and his
generosity transcended his life on this
earth. Similarly, my wife Cathy and
I approach charity around children
as the keystone of our philanthropic
mission. As I look back at what this
industry has given me, I am very
proud of the millions of dollars my
