The next session was the Capital
Markets Panel, moderated by Mark
Streeter, managing director at JP
Morgan Securities Inc. The panelists
were Rafael Kuhn, managing director
and head of aviation capital markets at
Deutsche Bank; Meghan Montana, vice
president and treasurer at American
Airlines; Nat Pieper, senior vice
president of fleet, finance and alliances
and treasurer at Alaska Air Group;
Matthew Simonetti, managing director
of global structured transportation
finance at Citigroup; and Eelco
van de Stadt, managing director at
Apollo Management International and
president of PK AirFinance.
Major points of discussion included
the Aviation Working Group principles'
effect on transactions; the efficiency of
different capital structures; and routes,
slots and gates (RSGs). The panel
agreed that they're seeing operating
lease terms back to pre-pandemic
levels. Said Montana: " We did see, over
the course of 2020, lease rate factors
reflect the distressed environment.
However, financing appetite remained.
A lot of traditional lessors showed up in
size. As we come through the recovery,
