and entering service
six years later in
2019, the E195-E2
is the largest of
Embraer's reengined
popular E-Jet family. The
aircraft benefits from 17% lower fuel
burn consumption over the previous
generation mostly due to the Pratt
& Whitney's PW1900G GTF engines.
It has an improved raised-wing
shape with a high aspect ratio and
an improved fly-by-wire system,
which also contributes to enhanced
flight stability and increased lift,
subsequently improving the fuel burn
efficiency in comparison to the E195.
With these improvements, plus the
lengthened fuselage providing three
additional rows, the E195-E2 has a
25% per seat fuel benefit and moves
the aircraft firmly into the narrowbody
market segment, with 146 max
seating capacity.
In a world focused on
environmental, social and governance
(ESG) initiatives, the E195-E2 is
well-positioned for replacement of
less environmentally friendly aircraft,
particularly in Europe, where KLM
has been replacing their current
generation E-Jets for E2s. Embraer
recently announced a partnership with
Pratt & Whitney to test the E195-E2
using 100% sustainable aviation fuel

(SAF). Though SAF is a route many
airlines and OEMs have been exploring
as a short-term solution to meet
tightening environment restrictions, the
approval of its use may be essential to
keeping an aircraft in service in the mid
to long term.
The E195-E2 has already
outperformed its predecessor in terms
of orders, with 183 orders compared
to 172 for the E195-E1. During the
pandemic, Embraer managed to avoid
order cancellations and even received
an order of 30 aircraft from Canadian
operator Porter Airlines in July 2021.
However, order deferrals were common
across all OEMs, and the E195-E2 was
no exception, with launch customer and
one of the largest operators of the type
Azul announcing order deferment for
up to 59 aircraft until at least 2024. As
of 30 September 2021, Embraer has
delivered 29 aircraft, 15 of which were
delivered in 2021.
