Bringing Our Growing
Community Closer
I
hope your 2024 is off to an
excellent start. It is remarkably
encouraging to see the aviation
industry recover, with most
regions surpassing 2019
revenue passenger kilometers
and many airlines reporting
strong 2023 earnings. This has
generated a flurry of activity in the
aviation asset and trading space and
a rebound for ISTAT events beyond
what we could have hoped for. It has
caused me to reflect on the way we
pursue ISTAT's mission, what offerings
we have and how to deliver the best
experience for our members.
In speaking with a number of ISTAT
veterans, I hear stories about the
early days of ISTAT events that were
barely more than a group of traders
with common business activities
gathering in a bar. Fast forward some
40 years to where we are today, and
we find ourselves at conferences of
around 2,000 delegates. The growth
is impressive but, at the same time, I
ISTAT's conference committees have made extra
efforts to devise ways for members to connect with one
another and facilitate their business activities.
recognize it can be overwhelming! It
is reflective of a vibrant industry, with
constantly growing opportunities for
new players and the natural evolution
of young professionals into the
aviation business. ISTAT leadership
has purposefully avoided imposing
limits to attendance at the main ISTAT

conferences to promote inclusivity
at our events.
Realizing this creates some
logistical challenges, ISTAT's
conference committees have made
extra efforts to devise ways for
members to connect with one another
and facilitate their business activities
despite the crowds:
* ISTAT Hub and Jet Fuel Café
- a central gathering space and
meeting point
* Airline Lounge - enhancing
the ISTAT experience for our
airline colleagues
* The Deal Zone - dedicated
meeting space for companies
needing a reserved table
* Special topic lunch
sessions - interactive and
timely discussions
* DE&I Breakfast - bringing
new perspectives on an
important topic
* Rising Executives
Reception - opportunity for
interaction with leaders
* Women@ISTAT - a networking
and learning opportunity
* Conference app with
directory and messaging -
digital access to the delegates
Please take advantage of these
features intended to make our large
gatherings feel somewhat smaller.
ISTAT continues to produce and
record ISTAT Online sessions - live
Learning Labs and podcasts. Through
this extensive series of sessions with
industry experts speaking on germane
topics, we are creating a deep library
of reference material as an on-demand
learning and development resource.
Even post-pandemic, ISTAT's online
ISTAT Jetrader - Spring 2024
