to-consumer (BTC) shipments are
becoming an increasingly important
factor in the air cargo industry due
to the likes of Amazon and Alibaba.
E-commerce growth has slowed,
however, and was not enough to
prevent total air cargo volumes from
contracting in the last four months of
2022 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Total volumes did see 2% sequential
growth in each of January and
February, resulting in February being

the first month in the last eight to see
volumes exceed 2019 levels.2
In addition to the A330-200F and
the growing number of A330P2Fs,
165 A300/A310 freighters (production
and converted) were in active service
as of March 2023. With an average
age exceeding 25 years, ICF believes
that A300/A310 future operations will
be curtailed, and they will likely be
replaced by converted A330s as they
exit the fleet. Boeing's offerings in the
medium widebody segment include
the 767-300F production freighter and
P2F versions of the 767-300ER from
both the OEM (767-300BCF) and third
parties, notably IAI (767-300BDSF).

The highly successful 767-300
freighter has dominated the medium
widebody freighter segment - as
of March 2023, nearly 400 were in
active service - with FedEx and
UPS combined operating just over
200 units, the majority of which are
