and was launched by EVA Airways. The
first production aircraft was delivered
to Pakistan International Airlines in
February 2006. The GE90 engine was
the only engine choice available for
these two 777 models.
The above table summarizes the
design specifications of the 777-300ER
along with the other five 777 models
currently in service.
Current Market
While international passenger
traffic volumes have been steadily
strengthening following the global crisis
caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,
the market for the 777-300ER remains
somewhat challenged, with 77 aircraft
still either in storage or temporarily
parked as of April 2024. In addition, the
fleet is relatively concentrated with the
largest operator, Emirates, accounting
for 15% of in-service, stored and
parked aircraft.
Before the pandemic, the 777300ER
had been under significant
negative pressure because of issues
associated with oversupply, the
high costs of transition based on
reconfiguration costs, and the advent
of more advanced and efficient
replacement options. With placement
options thus limited for passenger
types, freighter converters have
established conversion programs that
have attracted significant interest from
owners of the type. In 2019, the soft
market led GECAS (now Aercap) and
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to
jointly launch a 777-300ER freighter
conversion program with a firm order
of 15 conversions and options for an
additional 15 aircraft. Now, operators
can pick from three conversion
programs available for the type: Israel
Aerospace Industries (IAI), Mammoth
Freighters and Kansas Modification
Center (KMC). IAI has the lead over
the other two programs, and the first
converted aircraft is expected to enter
service in late 2024 once flight testing
is complete.
Production for the type ended in
2022. According to Aviation Week Fleet
Discovery, there were 725 Boeing 777300ERs
in service worldwide among
42 operators as of April 2024. An
additional 38 units were in storage and
39 parked, while 23 aircraft had been
permanently retired. The Asia/Pacific
and Middle East regions have the
