Day One
ISTAT President Gerry Butler opened
the event with remarks on the
increasing amount of women involved
in the organization. This year marks the
most women ISTAT has ever had on its
board; the first female member of the
executive committee; and the highest
percentage of female registrants at
ISTAT EMEA (around 15%). He noted
that there is "still plenty of room to
grow," but it's a good step forward.
Butler also provided updates on
the three pillars of his presidency:
1) China, about which he discussed
the Tianjin Conference and WeChat;

2) diversity and inclusion; and 3)
education. Regarding diversity and
inclusion, Butler said: "All the people in
this room are influencers. Our outreach
is significant. Our ability to bring D&I to
the forefront is very powerful. It's not
just en vogue; it's better for business."
He also mentioned ISTAT's new
Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
On the education front, Butler
announced the launch of the new ISTAT
Professional Development Program
(ISTAT PDP). Turn to page 28 of this
issue to learn more about that program.
